This issue was due to missing zoomTransition bitmap cleanup on the Map. This was not specific to WFS but to any baselayer with transparency.

The WFS "part" of the bug was that no LayerEvent.LAYER_LOAD_END event was dispatched when there is no need for new WFS request.

The fix have been backported to the 1.1.x branch.
