Nested Name for Platform

Issue #5255 new

I think that would be good to give Nested Name for platform. For example, no one in the world would call his Amiga a “Commodore Amiga” or his MSX a “Microsoft MSX”. Same as everyone love his “NES” not his “Nintendo Entertainment System”. I know you can Give a custome name for every platform, but i think that would be more logical that just like for platform categories, you can have the name of the platform and also a nested name that would be used only for menu display.

To do so just change the platform name to what you want to use and set the “Scrape as” as the original platform name so that scraping still works. No need to have two name/title fields. If you need to place the console in a certain order you also have the “Sort Title” data point to facilitate that as well.

The problem with that method, is that if you have an Auto-populated playlist and you rename the Platform, the auto population rules will still refer to the previous name, which means it will be empty. You have to go through ALL the playlist to make the change. Which is not convenient when like me you have lots and lots of playlists.

I too am looking for the ability to set nested names for platforms. I’m not sure why the feature exists for playlists but not for platforms?

It exists for playlists as there is a more likely scenario of adding 2 playlists with the same name. The nested name setting allows this to be possible and the playlists not conflict. User creates a unique playlist name but the nested name can be the same as another playlist. Not much of a risk of this with a platform. Additionally, we do not see users reporting they frequently change platform names. So likely why initially there was not intent to have it for platforms.
