Spine images - please allow for both left and right spines

Issue #7373 new
RetroFrogg created an issue

The "spine" image type is a great feature, in particular to allow Launchbox to generate the new 3D model boxes.

However, a lot of boxes and cases had a different image on the left and right spine. Please allow Launchbox to differentiate between left and right spines - i.e. have an image type for both.

currently the image type "Spine" is used only for top and bottom of the 3D box (one image for both).

However, there should actually be four different images to “recreate” the original scans of a box (e.g. DOS/WIN Big Box) to an accurate 3D model :

    Spine - Left
    Spine - Right
    Spine - Top
    Spine - Bottom

Yes, good point. I think if you’re going to do it properly, we need separate image types for all 4 “spines”.

This also highlights an issue I have been thinking about, but not commented on yet. I think we do need the 4 spine images - BUT, I don’t want to see these individual spine images cluttering up my Launchbox image carousel!

Only screenshots and backgrounds are in the carousel and we have no current plans to add any additional image types to it.

I like to have box images, flyers and banners in the carousel too, but have used the workaround of adding those types in the settings. That’s good about the spines.

I voted and like i have mentioned Left, Right, Top, Bottom would be great. If there could be a dimentions possibility to that whould be greate but im not greedy. Famicom come in a gazillion different box sizes, also japanese GB,GBA,GBC titles and many more

right, that’s really great (although it would be easier if it self detects the aspect ration automatically)
any news on the four seperate spine image types?

Yes, auto-detect aspect ratio would be good for some platforms where the boxes are often different sizes - e.g. DOS
