Suggestion: New Image type "Icon"

Issue #8521 open

When it comes to eShop titles and potentially many other titles, we have games that don’t actually have “Box Art” and instead we have many who are putting the Icon image in it’s place which is technically the closest thing we have but also the last thing many want to use when it comes to their box art images of their games and would rather use Fan Art if given the option.

My suggestion is really to add an image category for it so people can have the icon image as an icon as people aren’t having to wade through that and will allow theme developers to be able to use that image category as well.

Would have the ability of having a uniform box art setup which many of us have an OCD compulsion to keep matching while potentially having themes setup to mimic the Wii or 3DS or Switch or maybe even the Ryujinx Ava interface and use the icon images for them. Would open up new theme options for that theme that mimics the mini-consoles per consoles.

Just an FYI: Theme developers can already do/make this happen. Developers can code the theme and specifically dedicate platforms to use certain assets. If LB does not by default have an asset category the developer can make that asset folder in the theme and can include images to use and allow users to drop their own in.

If the team did add this as a new image category it would still require a theme maker to create a theme to utilize it.

So, in the mean time just know what you are looking for can actually already be done by a theme developer.

Understood, I know the theme developers could do it as you described but that would also mean they had to scour the place for icons themselves and could potentially make it pretty big.

Having the database just including the icon file type would allow it to pull from them which can be pretty easily added to and would also address all the eShop type games in the database where people are using the icons in the box art section which can make launchbox look like an eyesore whenever you go into that section unless you manually went game by game changing them.

If this gets implemented, I would love to be able to go game by game in the database and moving all those icon images from the Front Box sections to the actual Icon section assuming I can get the time.
