After installation upon restart of Eclipse I get the following message:

An internal error occurred during: "Checking if Mercurial is correctly installed...". com/vectrace/MercurialEclipse/team/MercurialUtilities

When I try to go to the preferences pane I get:

Unable to create the selected preference page. An error occurred while automatically activating bundle com.vectrace.MercurialEclipse (173).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times, but the same error picks up. Is there a work around for this?

roll your eclipse configuration back, then update with the beta site: http://home.zingo.org/eclipse-betaupdate/

once i did this, the preference panes for mercurial appeared. they told me to run 'hg debuginstall' from the command line. i had not yet configured a username for hg. i also had to set the path to the hg binary in the preference panel.

Thank you Anonymous.

I was going crazy trying to get version 1.3.1019 to work. I would clone a repository, files would be created in my workspace, but just when the task should have completed, I got an error claiming the clone was aborted because <basename> already existed and "element wasn't found". I reinstalled Eclipse, Mercurial and MercurialEclipse, yet the problem persisted. Log entries indicated exceptions were thrown during the clone operation.

Then I found your posting. I used the beta URL and got version 1.3.1084 and all my problems went away. I didn't have either of your problems; lack of username in the .hgrc, nor problems finding the hg executable, but just using the newer plug-in solved everything for me.

Once again, thank you.

Wow, I'm glad I found this--was about to completely give up on Mercurial's Eclipse plug-in!

I am a brand-new user to Mercurial, and wanted to see the Eclipse plug-in work, but I was ALSO going crazy trying to get version 1.3.1019 to work--could never get past the "Checking if Mercurial is correctly installed... com/vectrace/MercurialEclipse/team/MercurialUtilities" message.

Can someone mark the "last stable release" 1.3.1019 as being "unusable" for certain people (like the original poster, myself, and probably countless others)? I had hesitated upgrading to a beta release since I wanted to get a supposedly stable release working first... Maybe it only worked for those who had previous installations of the plug-in?

At least include a pointer to this page for those having trouble by trying to install the supposedly "stable" release...

FWIW, count me as another who's seen this.

Interestingly, I use this with both RCP and CPP development. The CPP eclipse environment is just fine with the plugin, but the RCP environment craters with the "Checking if Mercurial is correctly installed... com/vectrace/MercurialEclipse/team/MercurialUtilities" error and no pref panels.

Hope this is helpful in some way.
