Building a fiber optic network requires a lot of planning and consideration of many factors. Transceivers are one of the many devices used to build fiber optic systems. The transceiver performs normal transceiver functions by sending and receiving signals. They are most commonly found in communication devices such as cell phones, cordless phones, and radios. As networks become denser and space is limited, less space is required, leading to the integration of transceivers into chips.
In local area networks (LANs), the transceiver is used to connect the computer to printers and other devices on the network. The transceiver is usually integrated into a network card (NIC).
