High latency and no QuickLook for mid-size SVG

Gapplin has extremely high latency when zooming in and out of this Wikipedia SVG (direct link). This should not be, because Safari and Chrome zoom with very low latency (Chrome with none at all). Additionally, QuickLook and thumbnail generation completely fails for this SVG.
