Subtitles encoded with UTF-8 have no issues.

Does the webclient have the same issue, or is it just the app?

Same issue in web player. And Kodi or Emby Theater. Potplayer handles it correctly though. Encoding detection is one of those things that would be nice to have, but there are more important things to do.

Never noticed this, because they were the very first non UTF-8 subtitles I have ever used with Emby.

This is a server issue and can't be handled in within the app.
