[suggestion] Different Item Highlight Options

Issue #49 new
Kellin Quinn created an issue

In the theme creator, there is only one type of highlight and only an option to change its color. There should be a way to change the offset of the highlight in aspect to the two different types of items, banners and covers. There should also be an option to add a PNG and use the offsets to place the PNG in aspect to both banners and covers.

This simply gives much more flexibility in creating themes, as a PNG addition would open up so, so, so, so many different options and styles for highlights.

For instance, I'd probably use a thin horizontal line offset to the top of the banners as my highlight. Someone else may add circles to the left of their items in their background image and have the highlight kind of fill those circles in with a small black PNG circle.

The xbw theme editor is limited to the features available in DVDStyler.
For instance, the cover / banner objects you are using in xbw will become frame-v2.xml objects in DVDStyler which only allows us to play with border color for highlights.

It has been a while since I've checked the DVDStyler roadmap so it may have changed or we might be able to create our own DVDStyler object with more options. Like I said xbw reflects DVDStyler capabilities so anything we can do in DVDStyler should be portable to xbw.

As I'm already working on 2.0 I won't be able to spend time on that anytime soon..
But I'm keeping this proposal open for anyone willing to investigate it ;-)

    Thanks

Look at the four buttons at the top-left column of the program in the image provided above. There are four different styles of highlights there and I can confirm that they are in fact highlight because when I added them as a button their red part in the preview (check box, underline) were not there as you can also see in the above image.

I'm sure that you will be able to find the XML data for these and be able to make something of it. I very much hope to see those three extra highlight options in version 2.0 and hopefully they will add more highlight options to DVDStyler in the near future.

Yes you are right. Those objects are text objects (circle, square and underline if I'm not mistaken) but at the time I was developing xbw they were not allowing an image as a background (which we need for cover and banner). I thought about creating a custom object in DVDStyler but had no time to do so. As dvd-menu feature is not yet implemented in 2.0 I'll keep this in mind and see what I can come up with. And don't worry, anything that can prettify the dvd-menu is sure to be included in xbw ;-)

I may also have an idea for transitioning effect between menus but this is going to be in a far far future..
