Stuck in Open/Close Loop

Issue #57 new
Former user created an issue

Hi,

I was using Iso Menu, but to help the kids out (they cant read all the game names) wanted to change to DVD menu.

I updated xkey to latest firmware and changed to DVDmenu=Y and ISOmenu=N.

I created to two files needed with XKeyBrew and the latest version of DVD styler and confirmed they are in the games folder as expected.

When I try to load from the HDD I press A to open which happens, but the (fake) tray does not auto close, I have to press A to close it. It then reads for a second and comes up asking me to Open by pressing A again. No amount of fake opening and closing gets it to load the DVD menu. I am able to get it back to the ISO menu by flashing the firmware again, so I know its updating the key as it should be....I am at a loss!

Any tips?

I have seen this many times with xkey dvdmenu, every time it has been do to a bad/wrong region ISO file.

I was thinking about that too when I asked for any message on the xkey remote, because usually when you get this behavior there is an "Invalid Game ISO" message displayed on it. But as you don't have the remote we can't be so sure.. And the fact that in the contrary it works fine in iso-menu mode is weird too.

Maybe you could try building a dvd-menu with only one game and see how it goes. If it works then keep going by adding other games until you found the corrupt one and if it doesn't work try with another game to see if it's more related to a game issue or something else..

I'm actually having the same issue at the moment. I have the exact same symptoms as the OP.

I've also tried to build a dvd-menu with only one game (tried for a few different games) and nothing. I also thought that it was because the hdd has a EFI partition as the first partition, so I tried a flash drive and still nothing.

I do have the xkey remote, and when I eject to load the dvd-menu it doesn't say anything at all.

The xkey works fine in isomenu (providing i flash the cfg back) and works fine with the remote.

    Any ideas?

Hi there, i am also having the same problem. Everything works great with IsoMenu, but when i choose (Y/N) in the cfg for DVDmenu it stops working. I have to press A to close the tray, same as above post here. Did anyone get this to function? Oh, and mad props to the developer of this :;D

I've found a solution. Those having problem with open/close loop, you need to reformat your hdd with Low Level Format Tool. Idea is to totally wipe your hdd and have it like brand new.

    http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/

1.Download from the link above. Open the program>Select HDD>Select Low-Level Format>Check "Perform quick wipe". 2.Right click My Computer>Manage>Disk Management>Select HDD>Select MBP>Check Quick Format>Format NTFS 3.Create "games" folder & insert all your iso games. 4.Run XKeyBrew & Enjoy DVDMENU

Thank you very much, Han Wee! I have been at this same issue for over 12 hours until I came across your post. I followed your instructions to a tee and now it works!
