Running a local version

To run a local instance of FortNotes on a Windows machine:

  1. Download the source code from BitBucket, either as a zip file or using Mercurial. Let's call this C:\fortnotes
  2. Download PHP 5.4 or later from http://windows.php.net/download/ (I used http://windows.php.net/downloads/releases/php-5.4.13-Win32-VC9-x86.zip )
  3. Unzip it somewhere. Let's call this C:\php
  4. Make a copy of php.ini-development and rename the copy to php.ini
  5. Edit php.ini in a text editor
  6. Uncomment this line: ;extension_dir = "ext"
  7. Uncomment this line: ;extension=php_gd2.dll
  8. Uncomment this line: ;extension=php_pdo_sqlite.dll
  9. Uncomment this line: ;extension=php_sqlite3.dll
  10. After that line, insert another one: extension=php_apc.dll
  11. Save the file
  12. Download http://downloads.php.net/pierre/php_apc-3.1.10-5.4-vc9-x86.zip
  13. Inside the zip file, open the folder "ts"
  14. Extract the file php_apc.dll to c:\php\ext
  15. Edit c:\fortnotes\library\app.init.php in a text editor
  16. Change the line beginning with db::$dsn to: db::$dsn = 'sqlite:c:/fortnotes/db.sqlite';
  17. Save the file
  18. Open a command prompt
  19. Type: cd \fortnotes\public
  20. Type: c:\php\php -S router.php
  21. Now in a web browser you can open the home page
