Laser scan penetrates objects within minimum range

Not sure if this is a velodyne_simulator bug or a Gazebo bug, but the laser scanner will penetrate objects within the minimum range as shown below:
The velodyne sensor "sees" the opposite side of the sphere on the left.

In Gazebo, if the object falls in the minimum range of the laser scan, the laser scan will treat it as invisible.
Above link didn’t work, so I reattached a link to the same issue.
