Subsurface Factor in Global Setting

Issue #1203 wontfix
Butaixianran created an issue

There is a Bump Factor in Global setting for material.

We also really need a Subsurface Factor for material too.

For now, Character’s skin is pretty dark in Blender. The reason is, skin material uses Iray’s Translucent weight as Blender material’s Subsurface value.

But these 2 values looks like is not in a 1:1 relationship.

If I can set Subsurface value = Daz’s Translucent weight * Subsurface Factor, and set Subsurface Factor = 0.5

Imported materials will look much better for me. Subsurface Factor is really helpful for all SSS materials. Would you like to add this to global setting?

Thanks

The reason why we didn’t make it is because in general sss needs to be fixed by hand and this is expected. You can use the material editor to easily fix all the skin materials together. For the standard sss conversion it is usually enough to tweak the sss value to get a material similar to iray. Do not expect your 0.5 factor to work in the general case though, most likely you will have to use different factors for different figures.

You can also try the “sss fix” in the global settings that uses a different approach to convert the iray skin to sss.

That said, a sss factor in the global settings doesn’t harm and may make sense since sss is empiric. But again this will not be much useful in the general case.
