<<New Gens For Victoria 8>> Some Morphs create deformations

Issue #1216 invalid
Rob Inters created an issue

Hello Thomas and Alessandro, if I import an 8.1 Character with <<New Gens For Victoria 8>> some Morphs don't work as they should and create deformations (see screenshots) in this case for example the <<AnusOpen>> Morph creates some kind of "spikes". ( I also noticed that depending on the Character, the “deformations” are pronounced stronger or weaker)

My workflow:

  1. import 8.1 Character with <<Import DAZ>>
  2. <<Import Custom Morphs>> from the <<New Gens>> to the <<New Gens Mesh>>
  3. <<Import Custom Morphs>> from the <<New Gens>> to the <<Character Mesh>>
  4. <<Transfer Shapekeys>> from the <<Character Mesh>> to the <<New Gen Mesh>>
  5. <<Merge Geografts.>>
  6. Apply the <<AnusOpen>> Morph

Alessandro, I mixed the two shapekeys <<PBMAnusOpen>> and <<PBMG8FAnusOpen>> as described in the article, but now the <<AnusOpen>> Morph in the <<Custom Morphs>> section stopped working.

Are there some additional steps required besides the steps mentioned in the article?

It depends which morph you choose to overwrite, and if you delete the old ones or not. Will give it a try and let you know if it works for me.

note. Since NGV8 has morphs both for the geograft and the figure, I’m not sure your step 4 is necessary and may be the one causing the issue. Or may be 3 and 4 need to be switched so you first transfer from the figure to the geograft, then load the NGV8 custom morphs that makes more sense.

I can confirm that NGV8 doesn’t work, or at least it is no more as explained in the docs. I don’t use this geograft myself because it is too much complicated so may be I miss something if there was some update. Please @Thomas check NGV8 when you get some time and let us know.

Hello Thomas, I was wondering if you had time to check on <<New Gens For Victoria 8>> for 8.1 Characters to see if there was a solution or workaround to make the Morphs that are currently not functional work. I'm currently using the Golden Palace Genitalia, but in my opinion, the NGV8 look a lot better and it would be fantastic if something could be done about them.

The part in the docs about mixing shapekeys doesn’t seem to be relevant anymore. The new morph system seems to take care of that automatically. Hats off to Engetudouiti for figuring how to do it.

Your workflow seems to work well here. There is a glitch if you enable hidden sliders in the global settings, because then it is necessary to import the body morphs before the geograft morphs for anus open to work. In that case both the body and geograft morphs define drivers for PBMG8FAnusOpen, but only the geograft driver depends on the 106 property. But if hidden sliders are turned off this is not an issue.

Below is the merged mesh with 106 and 611 morphs. Looks good to me. Make sure that Ignore Rigidity is disabled when you transfer morphs.

I can confirm that NGV8 works fine and mixing is no more necessary. Tested both with G8F and Victoria 8.1, for G81 you have to manually locate the 3FW custom morphs since the plugin opens in the G81 folder while the morphs are located in the G8 folder. Test scene included ng-v81.duf, in my case the script by 3FW didn’t correctly update the Victoria 8.1 materials, but I may miss some update and that's not the issue here.

Personally I still prefer Meipe that’s much easier to setup.

steps (same as yours with some notes to watch for):

    1. import the test scene ng-v81.duf that’s Victoria 8.1 with NGV8
    2. import the 3FW custom morphs for NGV8
    3. import the 3FW custom morphs for Victoria 8.1, you need to manually locate the 3FW morphs in the G8F folder
    4. transfer morphs from the figure to the geograft, as Thomas noted be sure “ignore rigidity“ is off
    5. merge geografts
    6. apply anus open

  7. Alessandro Padovani

note for @Thomas. To transfer morphs from the figure to the geograft could be a default option for “merge geografts“, since this is essential for the merging to work, and would help less experienced users and speed up the workflow. Of course this is minor not a requirement at all.

Hello, Thomas and Alessandro. Even after carefully reading your previous posts and following all of the steps you described, I still have the same problem as described in my first post, so this time, I'll describe my workflow pedantically and with screenshots so that hopefully you can spot the error I make.

    1. I check that <<Make Hidden Sliders>> is disabled.

    2. Import <<Genesis 8.1 Basic Female>> with <<Import DAZ>>

    3. <<Merge Rigs>> (I tried it with <<Create Duplicate Bones>> checkmark selected and not selected)

    4. <<Import Standard Morphs>> for the Character Mesh

    5. <<Import Custom Morphs>> from <<3feetwolf>> to the <<New Gens Mesh>> ( Morphs Path: C:\My Content\Female Anatomy\data\3feetwolf\New Genitalia For Victoria 8\Base Layer\Morphs\3feetwolf\Base\ )

    6. <<Import Custom Morphs>> from <<3feetwolf>> to the <<Character Mesh>> ( Morphs Path: C:\My Content\Female Anatomy\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\3feetwolf\NGV8\ )

    7. <<Transfer Shapekeys>> from the <<Character Mesh>> to the <<New Gen Mesh>> ( make sure <<Ignore Rigidity Groups>> is off )

    8. <<Merge Geografts>>

    9. Apply the <<AnusOpen>> Morph

(For some custom Characters the deformations are much worse, see screenshot from the first post.)

I obviously do something wrong, but I can't pinpoint what it is.

  9. Alessandro Padovani

From your pictures I see you do not zero the NGV8 morphs before exporting, this way you start from a “defomed” shape and that’s probably your issue.

  10. Rob Inters reporter

Thank you so much, Alessandro; yes, this was the problem; I didn't know I needed to zero all the Morphs from a Geograft before exporting.

Now I selected the <<New Genitalia For Victoria 8>> Geograft in Daz, selected <<Currently Used>> in the <<Parameters>> tab and switched all the <<active Moprhs sliders>> to <<0>>

The Morphs have now begun to work in Blender, which is simply amazing.

  11. Alessandro Padovani

@Rob There’s also the zero preset in the NGV8 library that’s probably easier, most PAs provide a zero tool for their content.

note for @Thomas: it would be better to update the docs about mixing morphs and NGV8, so to avoid confusion. Just adding a note that mixing is no more needed and hidden morphs and rigidity must be off. Will keep this open for reference.

  12. Rob Inters reporter

Thank you for the tip, Alessandro. The <<Zero Morphs>> preset is indeed a much faster approach.

I added a note in the docs that mixing morphs isn’t necessary anymore. I also moved the Apply All Shapekeys and Mix Shapekeys buttons to the advanced morphs panel, where they are less visible. I don’t use these tools myself and I don’t think they are part of anybody else’s workflow either, so they shouldn’t clutter the panels that people actually use.

When the dust settles after the G9 release there will be a new stable version of the plugin with updated docs. But that requires time and effort that I don’t have atm, so am not sure when it will happen.

  14. Alessandro Padovani

Closing since this is resolved and the docs are updated. Marking as invalid since it's a user error not a bug.

Thank you Thomas for your support on this.
