Merge materials no longer works

Issue #1355 invalid
Lee John created an issue

Merge materials option doesn’t work, throw an error, or leave any code in the console. I think the last time it worked was blender 2.9.3 (currently using 3.3.1). Older versions of the add-on (1.5.1) don’t work either.

Just tried G8F and Victoria 8.1 and seems to work fine here. If it’s a specific asset that doesn’t work please provide exacts steps and your specs.

If you can’t provide details I’ll close as invalid since we can't reproduce the issue, so it is probably an error on your side and not a bug.

That’s the issue, I just tried with the default G8F and I don’t get an error or any log in the console. Import Daz: Base G8F >>> Mesh Fitting: DBZ >>> Material Method: Principled (<-- Works Fine) >>> Merge Materials >>> Nothing no errors, or logs in console I can post here. But if it’s working for you I’ll keep looking into it. I got it to work on the default cube, but that’s it.

Yes with your steps works fine here. Of course only identical materials are merged so for example legs and arms will not merge but ear will merge with face. This is the expected behavior. If it doesn’t work for you be sure to be up to date and clean install. If there’s nothing to add I’ll mark as invalid.

As for your specs I mean the blender and plugin versions, not what cpu you have that’s irrelevant.

    steps:

    1. import G8F and merge rigs
    2. merge materials

    alternate steps:

    1. easy import G8F with merge rigs and materials

note. Blender 3.4 changed the mix nodes, so if you’re mixing 3.4 and 3.3 files it may cause issues, but this is a blender limitation not a plugin bug.

The plugin should handle the different mix nodes correctly, and if it doesn’t it is a bug. You can only use 3.3 files in 3.4 of course, not the other way around.

Yeah, I’m not sure what the issue is, but it must be on my end. Marking the issue as resolved.
