Blender Crashes When Importing Certain Clothes Items

Issue #1385 invalid
Hank Yelany created an issue

I found this issue while trying to import individual props from at least three separate Daz products:

-the socks from Exnem Man Shirt

-the jeans from Boyfriend Jeans for G8F

-the apron from STZ Cleaning Accessories

Blender crashed for me when trying to import any of the above props, though I did see the “loading number“ of the importer for a little bit.

A strange thing is that Blender created crash logs, but when I checked the daz importer error txt file no new error files were created.

Importing didn’t always immediately cause a crash though, just most of the time. In the case of the jeans, I managed to get a screenshot of it imported, but incorrectly.

It is really hard to see in the picture, but the jeans mesh was imported as a bunch of tiny triangles suspended in the scene. Blender crashed once I tried to enter edit mode with the mesh selected.

A few other things of note are that:

-Importing other items from those sets was fine. I tested the Shirt from the first product, the Hanger from the Jeans, and the Rubber Gloves from the Cleaning Accessories and they were imported fine.

-I imported a few of the problem objects (the socks and the jeans) a while ago with plugin version 1.6 and they weren’t a problem then which is weird.

I’m not sure if this is just a problem on my end or if I just need to update the plugin to the development version.

Here are duf files with the objects to see if anyone else can recreate the crash. I’ll also include the blender crash logs for the three items.

You seem to be running Blender 3.1.0 from almost a year ago. Does the same thing happen in later versions of Blender?

I updated Blender to check and that seems to have done it for the jeans and apron. Trying to import the socks created this error message though.

But the importer error txt file didn’t get updated.

Sorry that most of these issues are just outdated software. I just assumed the programs wouldn’t need that much updating.

*The socks imported fine after I ran the export script again. I didn’t realize that was what the error message was telling me to do. Thanks for the answer.

Just out of curiosity, if you’ve encountered it before do you know why the mesh ends up as floating triangles?
