reporter Tested 2.83.4 seams that transfer is working, did some quick test only.
So indeed change in bpy in 2.90.0 Beta.
Maybe it would be good time to update it and prepare to 2.90.0 ? This version will be released soon.

I think report for 2.9 individually is good thing to update when 2.9 released as product version.I had reported some change when 2.8 was beta too.
I may recommend edit and include version in tittle for specific version problems ,. Thomas easy read But after all, most of up-date may happen only when 2.9 becom release version. .

It may only happen about 2.9 . 2.9 bpy change the bpy.ops.modifier_apply() aruguments , then it not use “apply_as” key words anymore. only use modifier keywords. and add boolean for report.
so if you use 2.9, you may need to change it by yourself. (2.9 is not support version) . even though you edit the code, I suppose there are many cases about 2.9 bpy change.
