Thomas/Alessandro I didn’t know where else to show my appreciation, where I knew you would see this. but just wanted to give a special shoutout to all the hard work you put into this plugin for years! Every time I update, I’m just blown away. I noticed upgrading from 1.60 to the latest 1.7.3 how AMAZINGLY accurate the import now matches my original daz character setup in terms of skin shaders, highlights, skin special effects, and hair!!! (previously the import would somewhat get the hair right to look like IRAY would, and I just settled for what it gave due to skill limitations) but not anymore with this latest update!! everything is exactly the way I have it looking in DAZ and with the click of a button it’s render ready in Blender! it’s been a HUGE time saver for someone who just wants to quickly get their vision out and looking great. So again, thank you for all of these little details/quality of life updates. Have a wonderful new year guys!!

Thank you, personally I did very little apart helping Thomas here and there, he’s the coder and genius behind this addon. The materials conversion is where I helped most, also with recent help from Midnight Arrow, so I’m glad you appreciate it.

Thank you to the owner of this wonderful add-on and all those who helped him.
I can't wait for Blender 4.1 to be released and the Add-on to be updated for version 4.1. Eevee Next really delivers excellent quality results.
I compared it a bit with the regular Eevee and I will definitely not use the regular Eevee.
I can't wait to use the Eevee Next.
I hope this Add-on can be easily updated for Blender 4.1

As I understand it, eevee next works with the existing shaders, especially improving volume and sss and displacement that wasn’t possible before in eevee. Also some limited screen space raytracing is provided, that means rtx cards are not used/required yet.

That should be transparent for us, not requiring any change. But we’ll look should any issue arise.

When I try Blender version 4.1 Alpha with the import plugin, I get an error called "Auto Smooth". Because of this error, the character is not imported.
Also I don't know if the plugin does the material setup according to the new principled node or not.

  5. Alessandro Padovani

Yes the materials are converted to the new principled for blender 4, keep in mind that principled is anyway approximated, for a good conversion you need bsdf. As for the error you can try disabling the “auto smooth“ option in the global settings for now.

When 4.1 will go at least beta we can look at it, alpha is too soon everything can change.

Can you tell me if the add-on is available for 4.1 now?

Obviously I will start all over again and re-import and reorganize the characters and locations for version 4.1.

I'm afraid that the Add-on will be upgraded to a better version after everything is done. If it is upgraded, I will have to redo everything.

4.1 will be released in March, 3 months away. Do you think I should wait?

I downloaded 4.1 alpha and can confirm the auto smooth issue. This is a real change that is documented in the release notes.

Another issue is that image texture nodes don’t seem to have an Alpha output anymore. I didn’t find any documentation about this and don’t know if this is a glitch in the version I downloaded or a real change. In most cases you can use the Color output instead, and the next node will pick the fourth component of the color if it needs transparency.

The last commit seems to work with 4.1.

“Another issue is that image texture nodes don’t seem to have an Alpha output anymore”

Is the white in the character's eyes related to this?

When I open my old character in alpha version 4.1, the character's eyes are completely white (not transparent)

  9. Alessandro Padovani

@Thomas here 4.1 does have the alpha output for textures. Anyway it’s too soon in my opinion to worry about 4.1, would be better to wait for the beta release at least.
