Is it possible for Diffeo to setup the newer Rigify facerig?

Hey Thomas, I marked this as a proposal but it’s really just a question. A long time ago I vaguely remember someone else

asking you this question, and I forget your exact response, just that it wasn’t possible with the way Diffeo works (I think, could be

wrong). I always wondered myself so I thought I would ask now just out of curiosity. Again not really a proposal, although I wouldn’t

mind if it could be implemented and give the user an option for the deprecated facerig or the newer one. Personally I like the overall

controls of the older rig, however there are defintely features of the newer one that I like. We would be able to normally set the

facerig feature sets up oursleves before rig generation like we can the body metarig, but as you know Diffeo uses the DAZ facebones

so that’s unfortunately not an option. Anyway I was just wondering why Diffeo sets up the older facerig with the DAZ facebones.

No, that cannot be done. The rigify conversion creates a metarig and moves its bones to the locations of the corresponding daz rig. This means that there must be a map between metarig and daz bones. This works for the body, because both rigs have essentially the same bones: two legs, two arms, five fingers on each hand, etc. It does not work for the face, since the face rigs are different. Which also means that the face mesh has to be weighted differently.
