Dicktator Back to Daz

Issue #2078 resolved

Is it possible to save the animation of Dicktator using Save Pose Preset and bring it back to Daz?

My idea is to attach Dicktator's bones to the Daz rig and then follow it back to Daz.

It can be done, but unfortunately it doesn’t work well. If you export the pose from a merged rig, the pose preset contains the pose for both G8M and dicktator. If you add this preset to G8M in DS, dicktator is unposed. You could then use the same file on dictator, but then the pose for the common bones is duplicated. In particular, dicktator hip gets the same local transform as G8M hip. You could export from the unmerged rigs, but then it is difficult to create the pose because the rigs to hold together.

OK, here is what you can do.

    1. Import the character into Blender, with Merge Rigs turned off.
    2. Add a copy transforms constraint to dicktator hip, targeting G8M hip.
    3. Pose G8M and dicktator.
    4. Save two pose presets, with G8M and dicktator active, respectively.
    5. Add the two presets in DS.

If it helps, in daz studio we use a hierarchy preset to export an animation including multiple figures, that’s file > save as > hierarchy pose preset. IIRC you added support to load a hierarchy animation some time ago, so may be you can save this as a hierarchy animation too if you already know how to do it.

Then personally I’m not interested to get animations back to daz.

You should really add copy transforms constraints to all bones that have counterparts in the main rig. At least the pelvis can matter, the thigh bones probably not. I made a little tool that automates this. It is called “Make Control Rig” and is located in the export_daz repo. However, it doesn’t work with mhx and rigify.

After I tried to Merge Rigs turned off, Dicktator couldn't move. Why is that?

May I ask if I need to merge rigs again after I complete "Add a copy transforms constraint to dicktator hip, targeting G8M hip"?

Sorry, I'm a beginner in Blender and I don't know how to "make control rig," but I have already turned off "Merge Rigs" in Easy Import Daz. Here is my Blender file, could you please tell me what I did wrong?

Thank you for your response, but after I used "make control rig" on Genesis 8.1 Male, the issue still persists.

Additionally, I have discovered another problem, It's a bit like a horror movie now, haha.:

As Thomas explained above, it only works for the daz rig, not for mhx rigify. However, here it works fine with the simple ik rig.

    steps:

    1. easy import without “merge rigs“ and without “merge geografts“
    2. “make control rig” for the geograft
    3. “add simple ik” for the figure

    update.

Nope, the procedure above works fine with mhx too, meaning you just have to keep the geograft separated. Not sure what Thomas is meaning that it doesn’t work with mhx, perhaps he means if you “make control rig“ on mhx that of course can’t work.

    Closing as resolved.

@Thomas, I was going to add some documentation for “make control rig“, but I can’t edit the wiki other than the importer module. Let me know I’m fine with this if you want to update the docs yourself.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy the past few days. Anyway, your help was very useful, it worked!! Thank you so much!!!
