Error when loading root paths and Easy Import DAZ

Issue #2086 resolved
Ludane Rua created an issue

Hello, I dont know a thing about programming (just made this account for this), but I will try to be precise

I have recently installed the 4.1.0.2147 version of import_daz, I did several clean installs in Blender (4.1.1) but alas, I always find this error when I load root paths

It is possible to add the proper directory (where My Library is) in the Global Settings menu but when I use Easy Import option this error appears.

Sometimes when I “Easy Import” Blender crashes, other times the model appears on my screen but the armature of clothing and hair is separated of the Genesis 8.1 armature with the aforentioned error always appearing.

I would really appreciate any recomended steps; either way, I am very grateful for your work on this add on.

OS: Windows 10 Pro Build 19045.4412
Language Settings set on English US (likewise with my “Regional Format” )
Not sure if my actual region helps but I am in Chile at the moment.

My username does use an “accent” (“á”) . I found a workaround using the old daz_importer 1.7.3 in blender 3.6, no errors during import.

I can’t confirm the issue, but I have no special characters in my paths. May be @Thomas has some ideas why 1.7.3 works with unicode while 4.1 doesn’t in your case.

You can also try the importer 4.1 with blender 3.6, if it works then the issue is limited to blender 4.

The second issue is a duplicate one of the bugs in #2083, which was fixed in 4.1.0.2051. Unfortunately, that was after the latest stable release. As a workaround, you can disable Prune Node Tree in the global settings.

The json error I don’t understand; utf-8-sig should decode all latin letters, even with diacritics. However, this code hasn’t been touched for a long time, and there is a better version of it elsewhere in the plugin which can replace it. Will look into that.

The settings file is now loaded with another piece of code. Not sure if that will help, but in any way it is better to have one place where json files are loaded.
