DAZ Style Interface

Issue #2097 wontfix
Alejandro Huerga created an issue

Hi everyone,

Your work is getting better and more awesome every day. I would like to know if you would be interested in creating an interface similar to the Daz Studio UI. I know this might not be very important for advanced users, but it would help non-Blender users a LOT.

With all the tools you have working in Blender, I imagine that it could be adapted into an addon that modifies the UI, or it could be a .blend file with everything organized for that purpose.

I noticed that using some of the tools you have, it is possible to morph the skeleton as well. So, I’ve been trying to create a G9 Base Template that basically works as a starting point to load any character, similar to how it works in DAZ Studio. With a little help, it could be possible to emulate a similar user experience to that of DAZ Studio.

I understand that this could be a lot of work, and most current Diffeo users don’t need this. However, if we can build it, it could attract hundreds of new users who feel intimidated by Blender's current interface.

If you are interested in this, I could provide my help and feedback and bring more people to join the project. The timeline is not important; we can take as much time as needed to work calmly.

I hope to continue this discussion.

Greetings!

Personally this is exactly what I do not want, neither to “attract users who feel intimidated by blender”.

p.s. As for ERCs there’s limits anyway over daz studio so users should not expect a “daz studio experience in blender”. Blender is not daz studio and does not work in the same way, luckily.

LOL yeah, luckily is not. Can you tell me why you don’t want?

I mean, the idea is NOT for the users to expect diffeo takes DAZ’s responsibility. It’s the opposite, give the users an smooth transition from daz to blender, so in the future they could prefer blender and get it’s full benefits, slowly abandoning DAZ Studio

Because, in my opinion, users have to understand that working in blender is different than working in daz studio, also not all the daz features will work fine in blender. The sooner they get it the better it is. Having a blender interface different than daz studio helps to stress this out.

Making a blender interface similar to daz studio as much as possible, will only serve to “confuse users“ expecting blender to work the same as daz.
