Textures are pink (lost) after "Make UDIM materials"

I have clicked “Save Local Textures“ and confirmed that texture images get copied to the textures/ folder near the blend file. The result looks correct (see screenshot 1)
Before “Make UDIM materials:

After I clicked “Make UDIM materials“, the model appears pink, as if the blender can’t find textures.
After “Make UDIM materials“:

    Strange, I don’t have any such problems. In the UV editor the textures are lined up:

    In a file browser, there should be a bunch of textures that begin with “T_”, which are the renamed textures:

    This appears to be a blender issue with the textures of the asset I used. Not related to this daz add-on. Closing
