convert Daz groups to Blender collections

Issue #264 resolved
Luke Graybill created an issue

Currently, the plugin converts Daz groups into empties in Blender, which are then (as expected) removed by the Eliminate Empties function:

However, it seems like it might be a nicer experience if the plugin could preserve these groups as Blender collections instead, allowing any form of organizing done in Daz (eg, for clothing outfits) to survive to the Blender scene as well.

Yes, I think this is a very good idea, and it should work like this in the latest commit. Instances should work as well.

The latest commit does create collections, that’s awesome!

It looks like the empty is still being created though, is that meant to be so?

Yes, because the importer is supposed to import what is in the duf file. You could e.g. use it to move all objects in the group at once, although that works only if there is no armature modifier. The Eliminate Empties button removes all visible empties from the scene if you want that.

Ahh, I didn’t realize that Daz treated groups that way, I’m not super fluent in the Daz UI yet, mostly just poke at stuff until it looks right and then import to Blender. 😅

This is a big improvement though, I often would have to manually create collections after importing, so this is great. Thanks again!
