better rigify for easy import (also Xin and Engetudouiti please comment)

Issue #454 resolved
Alessandro Padovani created an issue

As I understand it, rigify seems to rely on a pre bended rest pose for the ik to work fine. This is also recommended in the rigify tutorials I found around. Then to make it work it is necessary to “optimize pose for ik” first, otherwise we get flippings as shown in the picture below.

What I propose is to optimize for ik when there’s rigify for easy import, so the user gets a working rig with no flippings. While we’re at it, also using a wire rig instead of sticks may make the custom layers more elegant and in line with the rest of the rig.

steps:

  1. import G8F
  2. convert to rigify without “optimize pose for ik”
  3. try to pose the feet and you get flippings

Thomas, is it possible to customize the rigify colors so to get different left and right the same as mhx ? If it’s not too much a hassle I believe this would be nice to have.

edit. Nope, I see rigify already gets its own groups with colors, so may be even more options would only make a mess.

Thomas, since Xin and Engetudouiti have nothing to add, and there is no way for the user to “optimize pose for ik” with easy import. If you may fix this I can mark as resolved.

Or let me know if there’s any reason why you don’t want to so I’ll close.

Sorry, I didn’t notice this issue before. Adding an option for easy import should be straightforward, for colors I don’t know enough about rigify to say anything.

Yep I had I feeling you may have skipped this that’s why I pushed. Also wire instead of stick would be nice for the custom layer if you agree, but this is just aesthetic, while “pose for ik” is needed for rigify to work.

Fixed in last commit. I also reused some of the mhx custom shapes for some face bones.
