Convert MHX to Rigify and Vice-versa

Hello!

Sorry that might be a dumb question, i was wondering is it possible to convert MHX animation once done to rigify or vice-versa?

i should use BVH Retargeter correct?

    From what I understand it should be possible using a retargeting addon. The result of course may vary depending on the animation and the retargeting quality.

    I feel we have to distinguish between “animation rigs“ and “playback rigs“ though. That is, animation rigs as rigify or mhx use ik and constraints to achieve an easily editable track. While playback rigs as daz contain the deformation bones alone and are best suited to fk animation and mocap playback. It makes sense to bake from an “animation rig“ to a “playback rig“ possibly with a retartgeting addon. While in my opinion it makes little sense to bake between two different animation rigs.

    You could try the BVH Retargeter, or you could try to save a pose preset with the present plugin. However, I’m not sure how well this will work. Going from mhx to rigify is probably easier than going in the other direction, since the mhx rig is closer to a straightforward FK rig.

    You definitely have to make sure that the animation affects the FK bones, since IK bones are ignored both by the retargeter and the pose preset.
