Hidden part of MESH in daz, will show in blender.

Issue #799 resolved
bouich jules created an issue

Hello,

So i have this model on daz, and it have an inside part of head hidden ,it absolutely doesnt show,

but when i transfer to blender, the hidden part of the head is showing

i remember in version 1.4 of diffeo, there was a vertex group called MASK, which did the job. now this vertex group doesnt show, and the model can’t be imported properly.

Thank you so much!

The vertex mask doesn’t work the same as daz and was replaced with hidden materials that also work in the viewport. See #516. Then it depends how the head is hidden in daz studio. Does it use hidden nodes ?

Also please post a link to the model, I mean the commercial page.

Thank you alessandro, unfortunately i can’t share this model publicly, and there is no commercial page.

but if you have a discord, i can add you and share it, no problem.

But anyway just wanted to list the problem here, it’s an easy fix i dont even think we need a commit for it, because even if the mask is not imported properly, we just can create a mask in Visibility-) Create mask.

No I don’t have a discord. Anyway there isn’t any issue with hidden nodes afaik.

It is impossible to fix this without a test scene, unless you can describe exactly how the head is hidden in daz studio. Can’t you reproduce the issue with another figure is this the only one you have troubles with ?

Please check your email, if you didnt download it yet, you should have received it, thank you.

and you can have a look thanks.

    Got it.

This figure is not using hidden nodes nor hidden surfaces. I can see a face material with cutout opacity = 1 and all the head nodes are visible. Nevertheless daz studio doesn’t show it but this is done in some way at the geometry editor level. This the plugin doesn’t support and never supported afaik.

Anyway it is enough to hide the offending materials or nodes in daz studio. Below I set cutout opacity = 0 for the head materials, this way the figure exports fine.

    Thank you so much alessandro!!!

i did the cutout opacity, all perfect now. thanks again!!

update. It turns out that the head and feet are geografts, that’s why they hide part of the mesh when you fit them to the figure. Then diffeomorphic doesn’t recognize them as geografts when you try to merge, so this may be a bug for Thomas to look at.

You may want to reopen the issue and provide the test file to Thomas.

You can share the file Alessandro with Thomas, or once he subscribe to this thread i can share it and delete it.

Bouich please share the file with Thomas.

Thomas let us know if you’re interested so Bouich can share the file again. For this figure the geografts seem to be not recognized.

    steps:

    1. import the figure, merge rigs, make all bones posable
    2. ctrl-select the feet and head then the figure and merge geografts, the plugin warns you that no geografts are selected
