Autodetect doesn't account for gaps at the top of the data set

The search tool is rooted in the A1 cell. It needs to look for the first cell with data in it.

It doesn't look like there is an easy way to do this. Google doesn't have a "First Cell with data" function. It also seems to be outside the use workflow model for this script.
