Error Message Platesolving when Framing

Issue #1317 closed
Elizabeth Prochnow created an issue

I am trying to use PinPoint for platesolving. Under Options/Platesolving, I’ve entered the information needed for PinPoint, including the API key used for Astrometry.net. Separately, I’ve tested platesolving using the PinPoint app and was successful. To test using PinPoint in NINA, I went to Framing, loaded an image, then selected plate solve and got the error message in the screenshot attached. When I used the blind solve option using astrometry.net, I was able to platesolve the image. I want to be able to use PinPoint when I have either a very slow or no internet connection, and I’m thinking that this is either a bug or I’ve set up the parameters incorrectly.

Elizabeth, make sure you have installed the PinPoint 64bit add-on. NINA is a 64bit application and thus requires the optional 64bit add-on for PinPoint to be installed.

Ok, I’ve loaded the 64 bit add-on for PinPoint. Now I don’t get an error message, but it’s still not working. After selecting the image to load, if I blind solve, the image loads with the platesolving done. If I select platesolve, the image never loads.

I tried changing a few more settings today, and continued to be able to platesolve in PinPoint but not in NINA with the same settings (expanded area to 60%). I did notice that the reference catalogue is identified slightly differently in NINA versus Pinpoint. Seen screenshot attached. Could this be the issue? Several of the reference catalogue names differ from those in PinPoint.

Well after several nights of issues while at the WesTex star party in Ft. Davis, Texas, I am back in Houston. Platesolving using PinPoint worked like a charm for two targets. I am wondering if the issue was somehow related to the very slow internet, although I chose PinPoint as my local platesolver. As the problem isn’t recurring, this issue can be closed.

In your post on the 4th, your log shows coordinates of 0/0 - in other words, plate solve had no idea where you were pointing.
