ZWO ASI1600 stuck download

Issue #396 closed

This is something that happens in SGP too, i'm guessing this is a zwo bug.

Maybe add support to cancel a download?

Also maybe support for fast camera with cooling reconnect to fix this issue. By that i mean disconnecting while remembering the last power output to the cooler. And then reconnect to the camera and immediately setting cooler power to the last value.

It happens not too rarely and its very annoying to recool the camera, especially when fast heating can cause dew to collect inside the camera.

I had the same exact problem last night while using the flat wizard. ASI1600 got stuck downloading. A brief disconnect/reconnect of the camera worked, but had to wait for temp to adjust again.

If you have a guide camera running concurrently (such as one being driven by PHD2), try turning down the USB speed of the ASI1600 in NINA… to 40 or 60. I personally have noticed that the ASI1600 doesn’t handle USB bus contention as well as it should. Also, get better cables. The ribbon-like USB cables that ZWO supplies with their cameras are not very reliable.

    Thanks for responding Dale!

I agree that good quality hardware in best condition is always best. But in reality that is not always the case or even possible. If software can mitigate hardware problems, that's always preferred. In this particular case, turning down the usb speed is one way to alleviate this problem. Having a “reconnect” option which remembers the right power level to the cooler is another, even better way. Intelligently and automatically identifying a failed download then automatically reconnect the camera, use the proper power level and wait for temp to stabilize is exceptional.

I think this would prove to be a very valuable add to this already wonderful piece of software.
