Feature request: independent temperature compensation
Issue #687
closed
It seems in the previous post this has been stated “Nina just uses the temp comp ascom interface to toggle this on on the driver side.“
It seems not all (if not most) drivers implement that. The feature could be simple that an offset focus step value per temperature change could be configured by users with each filter. If all filters are from the same manufacture, the value could be the same across all filters. This can be independent from the driver.
Users can take the responsibility training the focus offset on their own data set. The function can consider the following that many similar software are lacking:
- offset value per temperature change per filter;
- focus point adjustment after each sub is saved or after the temperature change threshold is met, or triggered through an instruction in the sequencer. Sometimes even real time during acquisition where it would be more helpful for CCD as their subs are much longer;
- if used with focus offset enabled, it is very powerful that AF could be much simpler and faster, provided that a stable focuser is in the setup without any sagging issue.
- For side by side setup, currently it seems it’s possible to do dither sync. but not too much more. The temp compensation could be another killer function here to trigger the focus point adjustment same time for both devices.

An instruction is available "Move Focuser By Temperature" where you can just add a slope and intercept to drive the focuser to a position based on the temperature. Add this after a take exposure instruction and it will work as a temperature compensation method. https://nighttime-imaging.eu/docs/develop/site/sequencer/advanced/instructions/#move-focuser-by-temp
