Autofocus endless Loop occurred using Simple Sequence

Issue #702 closed
Kevin Wenrick created an issue

Nightly #022 - ran 2020/11/15 on Pleiades, from Fort Worth area, Texas USA

ES102, ASI294 Pro, Pegasus Cube 2 focuser, no filter

Issue: I encountered an apparent endless Auto Focus loop when running in the Simple Sequence mode.

1). I selected my target (Pleiades) from Sky Atlas and sent it to Framing window where I adjusted the framing (rotation was not needed from a few night before).

2). From the framing window I sent the information to Simple Sequencer.

3). In the simple sequencer window I set up the parameters I wanted to use for this session. I DID NOT initiate the building of the sequence as I did not want to mess with that level of detail for this quick session.

4). I went to the Imaging tab and performed auto focus and plate solving numerous times on various stars and my DSS object (Pleiades), same as usual, no problem what so ever there.

5). I went to the Simple Sequencer tab, verified all of my settings and ran the sequence. As soon as the Auto Focus On Start step was reached (debug file around line# 11636 @ 2020/11/15 21:11:39) the focuser window opened. it was at this point the looping began.

6). The reported focuser position (focus popup window) was at/or very near the position that was “in focus” as part of my initial focusing on objects from the imaging window.

7). The graph (focus popup window) appeared to be normal (normally I would have assumed it was in focus), however, the auto focus popup window automatically closed and a new one opened (no messages displayed), this repeated 5 or 6 times and then I aborted the sequence.

8). At that point I went back to my imaging window and reran the auto focus which completed successfully in the usual manner.

9). I then turned off the autofocus settings in the simple sequencer and successfully ran my imaging session.

10). I did not try to recreate this issue.

Secondarily, I noticed the Auto Focus after Meridian Flip setting has not been moved to the Simple Sequencer tab. Not sure if this is oversight or by design.

There should be 3 files attached, the debug log file, a screen capture of the Simple Sequencer settings. Please ignore the second screen capture of the Filter configuration as this is a separate non-related issue that I accidently added here. I’ll create a second issue for it.

I have not tried to recreate this issue recently. Since I had reported the issue I have used the Simple Sequencer with auto foxus on startup disabled and I always first established focus from the Imaging Tab.

It may be a awhile before I can get back to imaging with any regularity.

I would suggest closing the issue and I will reopen or create a new ticket once I finally can check it out for you.

Sorry, I wish I could give this a try soon, but unfortunately I just can’t get to it for a few months.

    Regards…
