Optimal Exposure Calculator can't find Sharpcap sensor analysis

Issue #987 closed
Luca created an issue

I’m using NINA version 2.0 BETA004

I performed a Sensor Analysis using Sharpcap’s tool. This generated the expected bin file in `C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\SharpCap\SensorCharacteristics`

However in NINA, in [Imaging] > [Optimal Exposure Calculator] > [Use Sharpcap sensor analysis] the dropdown menu is empty and clicking the “refresh” button does nothing.

PS: you need to update the list of the available versions when creating an issue as 2.0 is not present

SharpCap (non Pro) produces encrypted binary files of the sensor analysis results. NINA cannot read these. You must purchase SharpCap Pro for the files to be readable. This is not a NINA bug.

    Thank you. Got it

    However:

    (1) the introductory text says “If you have SharpCap installed and perform a Sensor Analysis, then…”. This should be rephrased as “If you have SharpCap Pro”

    (2) I’m pretty sure I won’t be the only one with this doubt. Adding this exact sentence as a tooltip or in the text would clarify this for many people

    (3) It would be nice if there was the possibility to manually insert the FullWell-VS-gain and the ReadNoise-VS-gain for our sensor manually. These could come from the vendor specs … or could be manually copied from the SharpCap Sensor Analysis output table (and I don’t think there is any licence that forbids to manually copy the numbers that SharpCap puts on the screen)

The author of SharpCap changed the sensor analysis policy of his application after the NINA OEC tool was written. As for what is allowed or not, it is not our responsibility to give opinions on what other apps allow or not.

As stated, sharpcap changed their file structure to only allow the pro version to utilize this. The full well and read noise can already be entered manually.
