BitBucket markdown is in safe mode so disables inline html.
There is a work around for anchors in using the internally generated id for each heading in the markdown document.
Using this workaround, it has been possible to correct the internal links of the README.
(hopefully this fix will still work on github?)
Took the opportunity to update the README and correct a few spelling errors.
