I can reproduce the bug and it's a segfault when calling some Java code that is related to the screen scale.
Strangely enough this only seems to happen with the nogame screen.

I'm getting this too on N5 and N7. I did a git bisect and it points to 00052d8. Reverting that locally at head avoids the crash, at least for the no-game screen (I haven't gotten as far as making a game yet :).

Thanks for all the reporting. It cannot work on any device actually. The hint by @sgraham is the root of all evil.
Reverting it fixes it (as far as I can see). However this will make packaging of games difficult as one has to modify and recompile a C file to package the game.
I guess I will just revert it and add an enhancement for this.
