Can't access to 2nd gym

I went according to the guidelines from wiki as below:
Maze Directions:
Enter first tree hole Move forward until you meet the wall Turn left, go forward, then go up and exit the hole Go around the ledge (fight the Bug Catcher), and enter the northern tree on your screen Turn right and then go south and exit out of that hole Face Xavier
However, when I exit I do not face Xavier but the entrance of the gym. This happened only after I caught the delta raults, not sure if there is a link there.
Please assist!
I don't know. I just beat the second gym not too long ago. I didn't use a wiki, I only checked every path one by one, and I had no problem to find him. The description may be wrong at some point. Just try it again without the wiki. The gym has three normal trainers.
