First "Boss Battle" Crash?

So I just got done running through the first cave and now I'm back in the first town preparing to fight the two grunt and every time I try the game crashes. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

This happened to me also, I was really excited about this game. They really need to fix it or I can't play this game at all.

I attempted to use an older core of the game (1.6) and then use the 1.7 patch to try and solve it. Unfortunately, it only seems to make the music that was previously mute come back on. Talking to the trees ( or at the very least aggressively press space bar on the tree) in the Pokemon Center still has not fixed it.
