Aegislash using 'Protect' has the effect of 'Kings Shield'

I didn't yet have any heart scales to give my Aegislash King's Shield proper, so I just taught it protect.

The game says Aegislash uses Protect, like normal, but when hit by a physical contact move the opponent's attack is reduced like I used King's Shield.
