Not being able to switch pokemon when starting nexxt battle phase

Currently, it doesnt give me the option to switch pokemon when the opponent trainer puts in a new pokemon to play. This causes me to have to switch to the pokemon i want to use, which makes me skip turn one in a battle, taking damage on my entering pokemon. This has caused a serious problem that has led to me losing some battles, or losing some pokemon. I have tried the restore download option in the launcher and deleting and reinstalling, both have failed to fix the issue.
