Stuck on TV Broadcast Mission (Mission 6)

In mission 6 (Version 1.2), the mission is that Latios has been tracked down to a pond that it drinks at. To get to the pond, I'm told by other players in the discord that I need Rock Climb and the 8th Gym badge to climb up to the pond area. The problem is that I didn't beat the gym yet and do not have rock climb. There is no option to leave the mission, therefore, I am stuck.
