Online battling can give each player a different result

My friend and I had a wifi battle while screen sharing over Discord. On my screen, it said he had gotten a critical hit and defeated my pokemon. On his screen, he had not gotten a critical hit and my pokemon lived. We then both sat there while our screen kept insisting we wait (we both hit F12 after I had taken this screenshot of it)
