Mac Freezing within few minutes of gameplay

My game freezes on my Mac as soon as Mew chases away Gengar in the first scene. I am able to autosave and toggle autorun, but I am unable to move in any other direction or open a menu. The music also still plays, but I am unable to do anything else.
