starters in 1.1.3 result in me getting a delta, and my rival getting a plain squirtle

hey everyone. love the game, just one thing.

im NOT playing on purity mode, which i know because i am using a delta charmander, however, my rival chose... a regular squirtle. i have a feeling this is a glitch due to purity mode. i started the game off from the start, in 1.1.3, if you want to know.
