Little EXP for 6th Gym

I'm only getting about 1000xp in the 6th gym for every pokemon, even with the lucky egg attached? I've only battled the first 3 trainers and all gave out about 1000 per pokemon

This is intentional. Its part of the gyms puzzle. You can choose to fight on, or maybe there is another way hidden in plain sight?
