pokemon level increase after connecting online

I am playing on the mac version of the game. After I created an online account I attempted to do a battle online, just to test it, but canceled the process when it asked for someone's username. When I checked on my pokemon afterwards they were all level 50. Before this they were all in the early 20s. I do not know if this would have gone away, as I attempted to restart the game but did not notice the problem until I had saved, and when I restarted my pokemon were still all level 50.
