Poor Performance (Mac)

Activity Monitor indicates that Insurgence normally uses 55-80% of CPU when running in foreground. The game is consistently quite laggy (even just walking around), usually freezes in battles, and I often get the "script is taking too long" message in battles, especially when stat changing moves are used. It's difficult to play the game for any significant period of time.
I have a new MacBook, and specs are:
OS X Yosemite (10.10.4) Processor: 1.2 GHz Intel Core M Memory: 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5300 1536 MB
I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to get Insurgence to run better.
