Cant break multiple block but i can place them?

when i set a limit (regardless of length) to mine blocks, it will only break 1 block at a time, there is a line of red squares to say what direction as well. however when i place block it will place the amount i set it to?

i press ALT and the build thing is set to disable (previous versions would not let you break multiple blocks if 1 of these builds was selected, no idea if thats changed?).

it also lets me use the build function (1st window when you press alt) and that works fine.

i have effortlessbuilding-1.18-2.34 installed (newest version of 1.18.2 at the time).
