Can't select tools in toolbar

[1.14] Creative mode

When I open the toolbar, I can't select/click on the tools to use them. When I do, it just closes the toolbar, but nothing has changed about the way I place blocks.

I am using a Macbook Pro trackpad. I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it.
