[1.12.2] Effortless Building not working in survival

Effortless Building works perfectly for me in creative mode, but it does not work in survival mode. The block preview does not appear regardless of what mode I’m using, and when I try to, say, create a wall and place a block at a low point and a second block at a high point, no shaders show up, no wall is created, and I lose two blocks (they aren’t placed; they’re just gone).

The shaders appear in creative mode, and everything works fine in that mode, but it does not in survival mode.

I’ve tried both place mode and quick replace mode, but neither works.
