Metadata retrieval for a large project taking a long time to index/organize local project files

Using this to track a performance issue that I'm currently debugging with an end user.

Can you please install this build which changes how the project files are enumerated/indexed? Download the attached build (don't extract it) and install it using Settings/Preferences>Plugins>Install plugin from disk (under the gear drop-down menu). Then try to reproduce the performance issue to see whether this does or does not resolve it.

Partial fix delivered in 2.1.5.7. JetBrains is investigating the remaining aspect of the issue (https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-214693) which seems to be a recently-introduced performance regression visiting/enumerating files outside of registered content/source roots.
